Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) at Piedmont Plastics
Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene, commonly known as ABS, combines three unique compounds to create a versatile and cost-effective thermoplastic polymer. It is tough, rigid, and impact-resistant, making it the perfect material for a variety of indoor and outdoor applications.
At Piedmont Plastics, we stock a wide range of ABS materials in plate, sheet, and rod profiles with both standard and customized lengths. We also stock an assortment of textures and colors.
Key Features and Benefits of ABS
ABS is a low-cost plastic material with exceptional thermoforming, machinability, and impact-resistant characteristics. Best known for its rigid design, glossy exterior, and electrical insulation properties, ABS possesses a combination of properties that make it ideal to use across industries.
ABS boasts exceptional durability, low moisture absorption, and ease of fabrication. Thinner gauges can even be machined and die-cut with simple effort. ABS is also known for its highly heat-tolerant design, which allows for easy thermoforming and sonic welding on wood, epoxy, ceramic, and aluminum. Furthermore, parts made with ABS can be joined with machine screws, bolts, nuts, rivets, and spring steel fasteners.
Among other qualities, ABS is recognized for its mechanical toughness, wide temperature range, good dimensional stability, and exceptional chemical resistance.
ABS Material Grades
General Purpose ABS: An economical choice, this rigid ABS product combines high impact strength with thermoformability.
Machine Grade ABS: A low-cost ABS material that possesses superior machinability, impact resistance, and thermoforming characteristics.
Fire-Rated ABS: A general purpose ABS sheet, this rigid thermoplastic possesses excellent high and low temperature performance along with exceptional impact strength and stiffness. At Piedmont Plastics, we even provide Royalite™ Fire-Rated ABS sheets (Royalite® R52, Royalite® R57, Royalite® R59, and Royalite® R927).
Marine Grade ABS: At Piedmont Plastics, we supply our own line of industry-leading marine grade products. This includes our Piedmont Marine Grade® Aqua-Plas® V material, which is a specialty engineered ABS polymer designed for the marine environment.
