Safety Equipment Fabricator Receives Acrylic For Face Shields

In early 2020, the Piedmont Plastics Portland branch was contacted by a local business owner who was working on transitioning his business from creating safety equipment for high-end cars to making face shields for local front-line workers. Because his business has laser cutters on site, they were looking to source .020 material, and after searching locally with no success, the owner reached out to Piedmont, and we were able to sell him impact modified acrylic. His company was able to produce 1,000 face shields per day and set a goal of creating up to 50,000 per month.

As it turns out, Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon, was a former customer of this business, and he was interested in establishing a partnership with the business owner.  Amazon was soon able to sell their face shields and they also donated them to those in great need. The owner soon decided face shields would be a long-term product for them.

The Portland branch also supplied the owner with .015 Polycarbonate, .118 ABS and .354 ABS to injection mold the head pieces. In the future, the owner plans to buy custom material from King Plastics through Piedmont, and we will be obtaining 15k lbs. of material regularly. This was a great example of finding a new long-term customer who also thrives on doing good for others!
