Thrust washers provide a bearing surface that limits movement and keeps rotating components aligned along a shaft axis. They are typically thin and round and are available in a range of sizes depending on the application.
Commonly made from steel, bronze, or rubber, plastic thrust washers offer the same durability and a longer life than metal alternatives, with less maintenance required. Plastic thrust washers are ideal for an average weight load at low speeds and are more cost effective than thrust washers made from other materials. Nylon and UHMW (Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene) is the most common plastic materials used in thrust washers.
Piedmont Plastics stocks both nylon and UHMW materials in our more than 40 locations across North America, and can provide assistance in selecting the right plastic product for your application.
Thrust Washers
Thrust washers allow rotating components to stay aligned on their shaft axis. These thin, round washers are made from a variety of materials. Nylon and UHMW polyethylene from Piedmont Plastics works well.
