A lighting panel is a flat plastic sheet used with fluorescent or LED light fixtures and is typically flush with the ceiling. These panels provide a protective layer for the light fixture, giving visual comfort and distributing the light evenly. Lighting lenses serve the same purpose as lighting panels but are molded into a specific shape, such as wrap around or drop dish, to provide cover for below-ceiling light fixtures.
Standard sheet sizes for lighting panels are 23 ¾” x 47 ¾” (commonly known as 2’ x 4’ panels) and 50” x 100”. Lighting panels and lenses are available in different textures, including cracked ice, egg crate, and prismatic patterns. As lighting technology progresses, advancements in plastics are being made to continue to maximize the efficiency and appearance of lighting sources.
Piedmont stocks acrylic, polycarbonate and styrene lenses in a wide variety of thicknesses and sheet sizes, allowing us to supply any size, shape, or pattern of panel or lens.
