Display boards are often found in schools, trade shows and conferences as a part of academic or professional presentations. They are often tri-fold in configuration and are made from a rigid material, allowing the board to stand on its own on a tabletop or other flat surface. A display board will typically have paper, graphics or other materials affixed to it to attract passersby at science fairs, job fairs, or trade events.

Display boards are most commonly made from a foam board material, such as Gatorfoam®, or expanded PVC foam. These materials allow for a range of color options while maintaining a lightweight profile. Clear acrylic, PETG sheet, and polycarbonate materials can also give added exterior protection to display boards. Sometimes, the display boards themselves are made from acrylic or polycarbonate. They can also be magnetic. Backing on these types of display boards ranges from aluminum composite material (ACM) to polyethylene to foam boards.
